Rooted in legacy and moving with renewed purpose, Fua Dia Kongo is a living bridge connecting Kongo traditions, people, and descendants across generations and across the globe. Through cultural arts, study, and exchange, we honor what has been carried forward—and create pathways for it to continue.
Founded in 1977 by Ta Malonga Casquelourd, Fua Dia Kongo is a nonprofit cultural arts organization dedicated to protecting, preserving, and passing on the rich cultural traditions of the Kongo people.
Now entering a renewed era of global cultural reconnection, Fua Dia Kongo advances its legacy through cultural preservation, research and study, immersive exchange, and the restoration of connections among descendants of the Kongo Kingdom worldwide.
In 2024, Fua Dia Congo transitioned to Fua Dia Kongo marking a pivotal moment in its 47-year legacy.This name change signals a global cultural reconnection, emphasizing Fua's commitment to Kongo heritage while shedding colonial associations. With renewed purpose, Fua Dia Kongo pledges to uplift and safeguard the rich cultural inheritance of Kongo descendants worldwide, culminating in immersive programs and exchanges in Congo, Brazil, and Oakland. Founded in 1977 by Ta Malonga Casquelourd, Fua Dia Kongo continues his legacy of preserving and promoting Kongo cultural legacies.

Community Dance & Drum Classes
Kongo Saturdays - Drum & Dance has been our weekly ritual in Oakland since the late 1970s, and continues to be a sacred space for that cultivates healing, community building and connection through traditional dance and drum classes.. Weekly classes are currently held at The Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts 1428 Alice St, Oakland, CA 94612. All levels Welcome.
